Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquainting with the structure and the operation of relevant standardization and regulatory bodies in the radiofrequency spectrum domain. Understanding advanced techniques for managing radiofrequency spectrum.
Course Syllabus: Regulations in the area of radiofrequency spectrum. Strategies for spectrum allocation. Relevant recommendations and standards. Global differences. Standardization and regulatory bodies for radiofrequency spectrum on a global and local level (ITU, ETSI, ISO, forums). Importance of standardization. Relevant documents and their domain of influence (obligatory / non-obligatory). Organization of operation. Flexible spectrum management. Opportunities for spectrum reusage. Relevant scenarios and new business models for flexible spectrum usage. Analysis of current standards in the area. ITU regulations for spectrum monitoring. Recommendations and standards. Spectrum monitoring trends. Standardized measurement methodology for measuring the characteristics of wireless signals (amplitude, frequency, phase, distortion). Standardized equipment for measuring and monitoring radiofrequency spectrum. Need for education in the area of standardization and regulation in the area of radiofrequency spectrum.
