Course Goals (acquired competencies): Understanding of basic concepts of telecommunication business and regulatory and economic aspects of telecommunications. Knowledge of basics of regulation, market analysis, project management, models and strategies for telecom operators, product/service/market development, basic financial analysis; preparation of business case. Readiness for research in these areas.
Course Syllabus: Development of telecommunication business, technologies and services. Regulation as a legal framework for telecom business. Monopoly and competition. Segmentation of telecom markets. Elements of telecommunication business management: managements of projects/processes, human resources, decisions, risks, brands, security etc. Strategies for development and planning. Research and development. Patents. Development of new products and services. Financial analysis. Business case. Elements of business plan. Marketing. Challenges and opportunities for new telecom operators. Mergers and acquisitions of telecom operators. Trends in telecom markets. Influence of ICT development to the telecommunication business and society in general.
