Course Goals (acquired competencies): With successful finalization of this module student will be able do design the basic DC and AC drive control systems and make an assessment of Industry application of variable speed drives (VSD-s) modern control techniques with improved energy efficiency.
Course Syllabus: Introduction to the energy efficiency with focus on speed, torque and power factor based control techniques. Electric motors dynamics and energy efficiency analysis. Different control systems for electric motors with improved energy efficiency. Scalar and Vector based control concepts for Variable Speed Drives (VSD) for on-line power factor improvement. Fundamentals of Modern PID adaptive controller and flux observer for torque and speed control of induction motors. Software design of digital PID controller. Industry application of VSD modern control techniques with improved energy efficiency. Potential of energy savings in VSD-s.
