Uncertainty in Measurement and Calibration
Course: Uncertainty in Measurement and Calibration
Code: 3ФЕИТ03006
ECTS points: 6 ECTS
Number of classes per week: 3+0+0+3
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Vladimir Dimchev
Course Goals (acquired competencies): The students get acquainted with the BIMP Guide to the expression in uncertainty in measurements, Supplement 1 to the Guide, and EA-4/02 Expression of the uncertainty of measurement in calibration, they learn how to calculate measurement uncertainty in the process of calibration different instruments and standards.
Course Syllabus: Theory of measurement uncertainty according Guide to the expression in uncertainty in measurements (GUM, 1995, ISO – Geneva), and Expression of the uncertainty of measurement in calibration (EA-4/02 M, 2013). Explanation of used definitions and terms. Definition of type A and type B measurement uncertainties. Gauss probability, geometrical probabilities, sensitivity coefficients, uncertainty budget. Examples for calculation of measurement uncertainty for AVO-meters, electricity meters, other instruments. Explanation how to understand technical specifications for errors given by the manufacturers of measuring equipment. Evaluation of measurement data using a Monte Carlo method. Get acquainted with standards and calibration equipment.
