Course Goals (acquired competencies): Upon finishing the course it is expected that the student will get familiar with the modern OFDM and MIMO technologies for signal transmission and the approaches to OFDM and MIMO based multiple access, and their application to the existing and future wireless cellular and broadcasting systems and standards, be capable to design OFDM and MIMO based wireless systems, and be prepared to perform scientific work in the area of OFDM and MIMO wireless communications.

Subject of the course content: Broadband systems. OFDM. Modulation and demodulation, channel estimation and PAPR in OFDM systems. Multiple access with OFDMA. Optimal resource allocation for OFDMA. MIMO. Transmission techniques for single user MIMO systems. Multiuser MIMO systems. Capacity of multiuser MIMO systems in uplink and downlink. Transmission techniques for multi user MIMO systems. Multi-cell OFDMA systems. Multi-cell MIMO systems. Network MIMO systems. Interference management in multi-cell systems. Interference alignment. Standards based on OFDM and MIMO: LTE and LTE Advanced standards, WiMAX standards, WLAN standards, UWB standards, digital television standards DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-H.
