Course Goals (acquired competencies): Overview of the structure of electricity management systems (EMS). Capability to solve problems related to power systems operation and control, including optimal power flow, state estimation and distributed algorithms implementation in power systems.
Course Syllabus: 1. Modelling of generating units. Economic dispatch problem. Overview of the methods for solving the power dispatch problem. Impact of the transmission system. Overview of load flow solution methodologies. Optimal power flow problem (OPF). Methodologies for solving OPF (gradient method, Newton's method, linear programming method). Implementation of OPF methodologies. 2. State estimation in power systems. State estimation methodologies. Weighted least-square state estimation. Application of state estimation methodologies. Examples and exercises. 3. Structure and characteristics of EMS. 4. Information systems. Hierarchical levels of control. Introduction to parallel and distributed processing. Load flow based on distributed calculations. Distributed approach in volt/var control.
