Course Goals (acquired competencies): Advanced knowledge in Smart Grids. Capability to analyse problems related to transmission and distribution grids operation and control from the aspect of the Smart Grid paradigm, taking in consideration new technologies and concepts.

Course Syllabus: 1. Architecture for development of Smart Grids and key technologies for development. Transformation of power grits into Smart Grids - required regulatory framework, standards, technologies and costs. 2.Smart Grids structure. The significance of interoperability and standardization for development of Smart Grids. Energy management systems - intelligent metering systems, SCADA, control and management systems. 3. Smart Grids operation. Load flow formulation and solution, voltage regulation and contingency analysis in Smart Grids.  Dispersed generation and storage influence in Smart Grids and requirements for advanced control algorithms. Changed role of consumers and load control in Smart Grids. 4. Environmental protection and influence of Smart Grids. Technology platforms - new experiences and knowledge.
