Course goals/Competences: Acquainting with the concept and the application of access networks. Basic characteristics of the technologies implemented in various access solutions. Planning and dimensioning of access networks according to different user requirements. Differentiation of various access solutions, their services and their QoS.

Curriculum: Introduction. Development. Definition, types and characteristics of access networks. First mile problems. Types of access technologies (copper subscribers’ network, ISDN, xDSL technologies, cable technologies, FTTH). PON technologies. Broadband access technologies – high bit rate to the home. Wireless access technologies: fixed and mobile (info). Traffic characteristics. Planning and design of subscribers’ access network. Service types. Future development.
