Course goals/Competences: The students will learn about the operating systems that are used in wireline communication devices such as telecom centrals, switches, routers, base stations, access points, as well as about the operating systems which are typical for mobile communication devices.

Curriculum: Applications and basic concepts of operating systems used in the area of telecommunications. Operating systems and software platforms that are used for fixed and mobile communication devices. MacOS, Windows, UNIX (Solaris and Linux)-based operating systems applied in fixed communication entities (switches, routers, centrals, access points, base stations). Operating systems applied in mobile communications (Windows Mobile, Android OS, Bada, BlackBerry OS, iPhone OS, MeeGo OS, Palm OS, Symbian OS, webOS). Specialized operating systems for embedded communication components. Real time operating systems - RTOS. Network operating systems, services and applications.
