Course goals/Competences: Introduction to communication technologies used in the physical and MAC layer in computer networks.
Competencies: Understanding the operation of network components used in the physical and data layer in computer networks.

Curriculum: Use of computer networks. Computer hardware for internetworking. Software for internetworking. Reference network models. Example Networks: Internet, telecommunications networks, wireless networks. Network standardization. Physical network layer: data transmission theory, transmission media, wireless transmission, satellite transmission, public switching telephone network, mobile telephony, digital television. Data link layer: Data link layer tasks, detection and correction of errors, elementary data link layer protocols, sliding window protocols, authentication protocols, examples of real protocols.
