Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering

Course goals/Competences: Introduction to different possibilities for control and protection of electric drives so as potentials in energy efficiency. With successful passing of the course the student becomes competent to understand and solve the problems in the field of control of electric drives, their simulation, projecting, exploitation and maintenance.

Total available number of classes: 180

Curriculum: Types of control systems. Relay - contactor control and protection of electric drives. Application of PLC in electric drives. Regulation techniques in electric drives. Regulated DC drives (AC/DC and DC/DC). Regulated AC drives (AC/AC voltage convertors, AC/DC/AC indirect frequency/voltage converters, AC/AC direct frequency/voltage converters, scalar control, vector control, regulation of excitation). The influence of adjustable speed drive to the source (losses, harmonics, compatibility, regulatives and standards).
