Delay tolerant networking
Course title: Delay tolerant networking
Code: FEIT10Z032
Number of credits (ECTS): 6
Weekly number of classes: 3+1+1+0
Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Passed: Internet technologies, Taken course: Telecommunication networks
Course goals/Competences: Understanding the problems associated with networking under large delays or data transport interruptions. Analysis of relevant protocols and possible applications for delay tolerant networking (sensor networks, space communications, mobile ad-hoc networks). Planning and dimensioning of networks based on the delay tolerant networking technology. Development of simulation models.
Total available number of classes: 180
Curriculum: Definition of Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN). Networking in "stressful" and highly heterogeneous environments. Communication with asynchronous data sending. Combination of store-and-forward switching with physical data transfer. DTN protocol stack. Deterministic and probabilistic routing protocols. Security aspects. Application demands from DTN. Specific DTN implementations in interplanetary communications, underwater communications, sensor networks, mobile ad-hoc networks with minimum number of nodes etc.
