Course goals/Competences: The goal of this theoretical discipline is to offer the students a broad platform, set on mathematical foundations, on which they can build up their knowledge through the courses from the field of their study. With the successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

- to successfully analyze electric circuits in time and frequency domain

- to distinguish the different circuit’s responses and states

- have an understanding of the concepts related to signal processing such as: convolution, frequency spectrum, frequency response, filtering, transfer function.

- be able to analyze models of LTI systems in time and frequency domain

- be able to use and choose the appropriate tools for the solution of a given problem

Total available number of classes: 180

Curriculum: Basic definitions and laws: circuits elements, Kirchhoff’s current law, and Kirchhoff’s voltage law.  Analysis in time domain: convolution, components of circuits response. Sinusoidal steady-state analysis.

Signals. Systems (emphasis on Linear Time Invariant systems). Processing of signals in the original domain (linear convolution and differential equation, components of system response). Processing of periodical signals (Fourier series). Processing of a periodical signals (Fourier transform). Signal processing in frequency domain (frequency spectrum, frequency response, basics of filtering, Bode plots). Sampling of analog signals.
