Course goals/Competences: The course goal is to assist the students in getting the practical technical and professional competence for solving concrete engineering problems in the field of electrical motors and related industry application

Total available number of classes: 180

Curriculum: Principles of energy conversion. Different types and models, practical considerations. Classification and construction of electrical motors. Steady state and dynamical analysis for DC motor, AC Motor, Induction motors (IM) synchronous motor (SM) and step motors. Equivalent circuits power losses, energy efficiency, and voltage and torque equations.  Modelling and simulation of different electric motors using MatLab-Simulink simulation tool package. Practical application. Smart high efficiency Electric motors and Voltage Quality. Fundamentals of speed and position control methods. Analysis and synthesis of the whole control loop using optimal PID based controller. . Introduction and main principles of adaptive control methods, and observers based control techniques for variable speed drives (VSD).
