Course goals/Competences: Introduction to basic concepts of electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic field theory, waves and propagation, types of electromagnetic influences on devices and environment, introduction to methods for modeling, simulation and calculations, introduction to EMC standards. Capable to define the basic problems related to electromagnetic compatibility, knowledge and understanding of the ways of modeling, and using calculation methods, analyzing obtained results and making appropriate conclusions.

Curriculum: Introduction and basic concepts of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Natural and artificial sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Review of the theory of electromagnetic fields, waves and propagation. Characteristics of the components of the electrical circuit devices and switches. EMI from devices, circuits, modeling and calculation methods. Crosstalk. Radiated and conduction interference, measurement and protection. Shielding and grounding. Electrostatic discharges. EMI filters. Modeling and simulation. Procedures for EMC testing. Effects of EMP on the environment. Electromagnetic environment. Methods for modeling the EMP in in-homogeneous space. Ways to reduce the harmful effects of EM radiation in working and living environment. EMC standards and regulations in the world and in our country.
