Fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing
Course title: Fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing
Code: FEIT05Z013
Number of credits (ECTS): 6
Weekly number of classes: 3+1+1+0
Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Signals and systems
Course goals/Competences: The goal of the course is to insure formal understanding of the basics of DSP and practical experience with the processing of digital signals. With the successful completion of the course the student will be able the students:
-will understand the implications of the sampling theorem and the consequence of the aliasing phenomenon, quantization distortion
- will be able to use DFT and its fast implementation FFT in the domain of spectral analysis, having in mind the consequences and the occurring phenomena
- will be able to design IIR and FIR filters which will satisfy pregiven requirements and to use software tools and CAD packages for the design and/or simulation of digital filters
Total available number of classes: 180
Curriculum: z - transform. (Definition, convergence, properties, inverse transform). Transfer function. Frequency response. Discrete –time systems excited with random input. Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT): definition, properties, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), FFT algorithm. Convolutions by FFT: liner convolution, circular convolution, relation between them, filtering with FFT, implementing LTI systems using DFT (“Convolution of long sequences”). Fourier analysis of signals using DFT- Spectral analysis: spectrum of finite-length and infinite-length sequences, effects of spectral sampling on discrete signal and continuous signal. Digital Filter design techniques: classification of filters, FIR filter design methods, IIR filter design methods.
