Course goals/Competences: Mechatronics as interdisciplinary and integrated engineering approach. Mechanical structures with electronic components under computer monitoring and control. Redines for contemporary engineering challenges and experimental approach in using information systems for control.

Curriculum: Introduction to mechatronics. Electromechanical systems. Analogies and interactions between mechanical movement and electromagnetic phenomena. Integration of engineering disciplines: mechanics, informatics, electronics, automatics, measurement, management. Mechatronic components: classification, types, characteristics, application. Signal analysis and transforms. Measuring of displacement, velocity, vibrations, force, pressure, torsion, temperature. Basic actuators: pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and electromagnetic actuators. Electronic components in mechatronics. Programming languages nad computer interface. Computer based monitoring and control. Acquisition of measurement data. Virtual instruments. System interface. Mechatronic design: requirements, problem analysis, possible solutions and selection, details, simulation, prototype, documentation. Designing simple mechatronic system. Sensors. Pressure transducers (membrane and piezoelectric). Tactile, light and distance sensors. Servo motor and step-motor. LabView and Matlab application. Robotic arm. Microcontroller development board. C programming. Computer controlled cart.
