Course goals/Competences: Acquainting with the characteristics of the short-range wireless networks and analysis of their performance. Understanding the concept of personal networking. Analysis and design of ad-hoc networks.

Total available number of classes: 180

Curriculum: Introduction. Transmission techniques. Personal networks WPAN (Bluetooth). Basic concepts in ad-hoc wireless networks. MAC and routing protocols in ad-hoc networks. Multicast routing. Communications parameters. Specific aspects in ad-hoc networking (SD, QoS, mobility, energy efficiency, traffic characteristics, security, ad-hoc management etc.). Implementation and nomadic applications. Future development. Sensor networks (standards - IEEE 802.15.x, architectures, protocols, applications).
