Course goals/Competences: Introduction to fundamental laws (boolean algebra) for analysis and design of digital logic circuits and digital logic networks. Introduction to digital electronic components and procedures for their analysis. Design of digital electronic components.
Competencies: Analysis and design of logic circuits and networks. Procedures for designing digital electronic components.

Curriculum: Numerical systems and representation of digits and numbers. Fundamentals of Boolean algebra and switching. Logical variables, expressions and functions. Logical functions and universal sets. Analysis of logical functions. Synthesis of logical functions with digital components. Combinational logic networks. Minimization of combinational networks. Asynchronous sequential components. Synchronous sequential components. Sequential logic networks. Moore and Mealy sequential networks. Representation of sequential networks, state transition tables, diagrams and outputs. Methods for minimizing state transition tables and outputs. Registers and counters. Finite state automata. Control unit and data paths in the processor. Computer memory basic architecture. Implementation of the control unit in the processor. Modern microprocessor architectures.
