Course goals/Competences: The student will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the application of the techniques and algorithms of digital and adaptive signal processing for temporal and spatial signal processing in modern digital telecommunications systems and will be capable of software implementation of a digital receiver, antenna arrays and sensor arrays.

Curriculum: Systems for digital signal processing. PC-based signal processing. Types and architectures of processors for signal processing. Embedded processors: DSP and FPGA. A/D and D/A conversion. Digital filters in telecommunications. Multirate signal processing. Decimation and interpolation. Sampling rate conversion. Implementation of the algorithms for passband signal processing. Digital down-conversion. Carrier recovery methods. Timing recovery methods. Software implementation of digital QAM transmitter and receiver. Software implementation of digital OFDM transmitter and receiver. Principles of software radio. Software radio components. Adaptive signal processing. LMS algorithm and its variants. Applications of adaptive signal processing. Antenna array signal processing. Beamforming, adaptive (smart) antennas. Angle of arrival estimation. Signal processing with sensor arrays and their applications.
