Course goals/Competences: Gaining practical knowledge and competence in using modern software packages and tools for solving practical engineering problems. Ability for using software application for modeling the physical processes and analyses of economic impacts in the power engineering.

Total available number of classes: 180

Curriculum: Software tools for creating an engineering technical documentation. Standards, criteria and rules for preparation textual, graphical and multimedia part of the engineering projects. Software tools for technical presentation. Rules for effective technical presentation. Using MS Excel and its add-ins (Solver, Goal Seek, and Scenario Manager) for solving practical engineering problems.  MATLAB – fundamentals and programming. M -files. Plots and process visualization in MATLAB. Statistical data analyses in MATLAB. Practical application of MATLAB for solving systems of linear and nonlinear equations. Users defined functions and function files. Solving numerical and optimization problems in power engineering. Curve fitting, approximation, integration and differentiation in MATLAB. Introduction to SIMULINK modeling.
