Course goals/Competences: Obtaining qualified engineering knowledge for use of fuzzy-logic systems, neural networks, and genetic algorithms, in the field of power engineering and the management.

Curriculum: Historic development and present challenges of the systems that use artificial intelligence. Characteristics of expert systems. Rule-based representation of the expert knowledge. Boolean and multiple-value logic. Engineering aspects of fuzzy-logic systems. Membership function. Operations with interval and triangular fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy-logic controllers and application in power plants. Defuzzyfication methods. Application of fuzzy-logic in the management and engineering. Fuzzy-criterions for acceptance for projects as investment. Neural networks. Types of activation function. Learning methods in neural network. ANFIS models. Application of neural networks for operational control of Powers Systems, load diagram forecasts, water inflows, wind speed. Program packages and software tools for formation of fuzzy models and neural networks: Matlab Fuzzy Logic & Neural Networks Toolbox. Introduction of genetic algorithms and application in power engineering.
