Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Passed: Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering 1 and 2 Theory of electrical circuits. Taken course: Transformers and generators.
Course goals/Competences: Introduction to power networks and systems and their use, parameters and construction. Calculations and selection of size and type of conductors for electrical power grid by use of conventional and computer oriented algorithms and procedures. Power and energy loss calculation, technical and economic analysis, basic aspects of power quality.

Curriculum: Basic terms and definitions on power networks and systems and consumption. The role of electricity networks. Network classification and characterization. Types of electricity networks. Elements of electricity networks and their constructive layout. Equivalent schemes and parameters. Types of loads. Reducing and per-unit calculations. Power flow calculations of radial electricity networks. Power flow calculations of meshed and complex-meshed electricity networks - conventional and computer oriented algorithms and procedures. Dimensioning - selection of size and type of conductors. Power and energy loss in electricity networks. Basics of techno-economic analysis. Short-circuit calculations. Power Quality - criteria, monitoring and measures for improving.
