Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Passed: Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering 1 and 2, Mathematics 1, 2 and 3, Theory of electrical circuits, Taken course: Electrical networks

Course goals/Competences: Basic knowledge in the field of transmission power systems. Voltage regulation, short circuits and their analysis. Some aspects relating static and dynamic stability of the power systems.

Curriculum: Introduction. Scope. Basic terms and definitions. Transmission of electric power with long three-phase lines. Volt and var regulation in power systems. Under load tap change-transformers. Injection and redispatching the reactive power in the system, Volt-var characteristic of a customer node. Short circuits in power systems – types, reasons of their appearance and consequences of their appearance. Shape of the short circuit current. Possible simplifications and approximations in their calculations. Concept of symmetrical components, equivalent schemes, general relations. Analysis of short circuits using matrix methods. Instruments and measures for reducing short circuit currents. Power system stability. Static and dynamic stability. Electromechanical transients, terms and definitions – general considerations. Dynamic equation. Modeling. Angle characteristics of power in the system. Static stability – small signal criterion. Dynamic stability. Equal area criterion. System with arbitrary number of aggregates – general approach. Means and instruments for improvement the stability of the system.
