Course goals/Competences: To understand the principles of CMOS VLSI design: principles of designing basic building elements in CMOS technology and the technologial design limitations

Curriculum: Introduction to VLSI design. Scaling CMOS technology. Layout of CMOS integrated circuits. MOSIS rules for CMOS scaling. Characterizations of CMOS VLSI integrated circuits. CMOS and NMOS transmission gates. Pass-transistor logic. Dynamic CMOS inverter, cascading and domino logic. Combinational logic design. Registers and counters design. Sequential circuits design. Programmable logic devices. Reprogrammable memories (ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, FLASH). Static RAM. Dynamic RAM (asynchronous DRAM, SDRAM, DDR, RDRAM)
