Course goals/Competences: Study of wireless IP networks, mobile Internet, Mobile IP protocol for macro-mobility and micro-mobility handovers, QoS and VoIP over wireless networks, routing and signaling protocols in IP-based mobile networks, internetworking of mobile and wireless IP-based networks, as well as security mechanisms, multimedia Internet services and applications in wireless IP networks.

Curriculum: Basic terminology (definitions, elements, architectures, protocols, Internet traffic). Integration of IP and classical mobile networks. Evolution towards wireless all-IP networks: from GSM towards UMTS and 4G. Mobile Internet. Mobile IP, macro-mobility. Micro-mobility management (Cellular IP, HAWAII, etc.). Quality of Service (QoS) for IP applications over wireless networks: integrated and differentiated services in wireless IP networks. Voice over IP (VoIP) over wireless IP networks. QoS aspects for transport of VoIP over wireless IP networks. TCP/IP communication over wireless links (Indirect TCP, Snoop TCP, etc.). IP mobility, handovers in mobile IP networks. Signaling and routing for mobile IP networks. Internetworking between mobile networks (UMTS) and wireless networks (WLAN, WiMAX). Security mechanisms in wireless IP networks, AAA mechanisms. Multimedia services and application over wireless IP networks: video transport, IPTV. IP multimedia systems for heterogeneous wireless IP networks. New services and applications over wireless IP networks (location-based services, gaming, messaging, etc.).
