Course Goals (acquired competencies): Introduction to basic media and transmission modes in computer networks, basics of network hardware for transmission of signals and types of computer networks. Upon completion of the course students will be able to understand and work with basic network structures and components.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to computer networks. Application of computer networks. Network hardware. PAN, LAN, MAN and WAN networks. Network software. Protocol hierarchy. Layers of the network. Services. Protocols. Reference models: ISO / OSI and TCP / IP. Example of networks. Internet. Mobile networks. Wireless networks. RFID and sensor networks. Standardization of networks. Metric units. Theoretical bases of data communication. Fourier analysis. Bandwidth alarms. Maximum channel data per channel. Targeted media for data transmission: magnetic medium, wavy coin, coaxial cable, optical cable. Wireless transmission: electromagnetic spectrum. Radio transmission. Microwave transmission. Infrared and small waves. Light transmission. Communication satellites. Geostationary satellites. Orbit satellites at medium and low altitudes. Digital modulation and multiplexing. Public telephone networks: Structure of telephone systems. Mobile phone system: all generations. Cable TV.
