Control of Electric Drives
Course title: Control of Electric Drives
Code: 3ФЕИТ02Л023
Number of credits (ECTS): 6
Weekly number of classes: 3+1+1+0
Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: Taken course: Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering
Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquire basic knowledge about open loop and closed loop electric drives control systems and their electric protection. Analyzing, designing and maintenance of open loop control and protection systems (by applying relay logic components and programmable logic controllers) and closed loop control and protection electric drives systems (by applying knowledge of automatic control theory and power electronics).
Total available number of classes: 180
Course Syllabus: Introduction. Relay logic control and protection of electric drives. Programmable logic control of electric drives. Control techniques for electric drives. Controlled DC electric drives (DC-DC and AC-DC). Controlled AC electric drives (by varying motor voltage, by varying motor frequency, by varying motor frequency and voltage, scalar control, vector control, PWM control, cascade systems, field control). The impact of controlled electric drives on power supply (losses, harmonics, electromagnetic interference, regulations and standards).
