Course Goals (acquired competencies): Obtaining a basic engineering knowledge for the power generation processes in systems that use renewable energy sources. Acquainting with the basis of renewable energy systems sizing. Getting capabilities for economic evaluation of systems that use renewable energy sources.

Course Syllabus: Cost-effectives of RES systems construction. Mechanisms for financial support. Procedure for obtaining the status of feed-in producer. Project parameters for small HPPs. Project parameters for wind power plant. Project parameters for photovoltaic power plant. Sizing of energy storage components. Power quality parameters of the electricity generated by RES systems. Schematic diagrams for connection of RES systems into the grid. Influence of RES systems to the level of short circuit currents and the equipment in the substations. Load flow in the networks with dispersed generators. Estimation of hosting capacity. Stand-alone and parallel operation of RES systems with the power system. Regulation of the active power and the frequency at RES systems. Voltage and reactive power regulation. Impact of RES system to setting relay protection devices.
