Course Goals (acquired competencies): Traffic modeling in telecommunication networks, studying flow control mechanisms, admission control and resources management in the network, Quality of Service (QoS) analysis, design of telecommunication networks for given QoS (Quality of Service) requirements, design of corporate LANs, design of access networks, design of transport networks, design of networks for Voice over IP.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to design and modeling of telecommunications networks. Traffic modeling in telecommunication networks. Modeling of Internet traffic for various applications. Quality-of-Service (QoS) analysis at the call level and packet level. Modeling of telecommunication networks. Flow control and routing. Admission control and resource management in access networks and core networks. Quality of Service (QoS), quality management of the service. Performance of network nodes and network access techniques. Design of access networks (xDSL networks, cable networks, optics to home). Design of wireless and mobile networks with given performance. Design of transport networks (VPN, optical transport). Design of multimedia packet networks with QoS control (RSVP, MPLS, differentiated services). Design of corporate IP networks. Design of networks for Voice over IP (VoIP).
