Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquaintance to measurement systems and elements of the measurement systems. Basic sensor technologies. Study of the measurement of different non-electrical quantities through electrical methods. Getting knowledge of process and monitoring systems and application of contemporary virtual instrumentation and computer measurement techniques for measurement of non-electrical quantities.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to electrical measurements of non-electrical quantities. Application of measurement systems. Elements of a measurement system. Selection of proper measurement device or system. Development and classification of sensors for electrical measurements of non-electrical quantities. Basic sensor technologies. Impedance sensors. Generator sensors. Frequency sensors. Optical sensors. Smart sensors. Measurement noise. Signal conditioning. A/D conversion. Telemetry. Measurement of mechanical quantities (dimensions, translation, translational and rotational speed and acceleration, mass, force, torque, pressure). Measurement of sound, noise and vibrations. Measurement of speed, flow and level of fluids. Humidity measurement. Temperature measurement. Radiation measurement. Systems for process measurements and monitoring.
