Course Goals (acquired competencies): Gaining expert knowledge about the role of the electrical substations in the electric power system and functions of their components. The ability to calculate various type of the short-circuits currents and providing knowledge for mechanical and thermal sizing of the equipment in the electrical substations. as well as for design of single line diagrams of electrical substations and theirs types of a constructions.
Total available number of classes: 180
Course Syllabus: Types of electrical substations. Voltages and currents in the electrical substations. Symmetrical components and short-circuit currents in power plants and electrical substations. Calculation of currents suitable for sizing of the equipment in electrical substations: peak short circuit current, simetrical breaking current and thermal short circuit current. Heating of the conductors in normal operation mode. Mechanical and Termal Strengths. Busburs in electrical substations - mechanical and thermal sizing. Types of circuit breakers, switches, electric arc. Basic somponents of the electrical substations and its main characteristics: power transformer, current transformers, voltage transformers, isolators, fuses. Electrical schemes of main and auxiliary circuits in distribution systems. Single line diagrams. Modern treds in design and construction of electrical susbstation.
