Course Goals (acquired competencies): Students will gain knowledge of optical phenomena, light sources, displays, optical fibers and new memory units, and their application in electrooptical systems for transmitting information.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to electrooptical phenomena and mechanisms. Interaction of light with matter. Polarization of light. Electrooptical effects. Electrochromism, elektroluminiscence and optically stimulated luminescence. Generating an optical signal - light sources. Structure and operation of LED, OLED and PLED. Principle of operation and types of displays. Technology for obtaining photovoltaic cells. Lasers, holography and new storage units. Optical fibers.
