Elements of Automation and Robotics
Course title: Elements of Automation and Robotics
Code: 3ФЕИТ01З005
Number of credits (ECTS): 6
Weekly number of classes: 2+2+1+0
Prerequisite for enrollment of the subject: None
Course Goals (acquired competencies): The goal of the course is to introduce the students to the basic elements of the control loop, the sensors and the actuators, their different types and varieties, and ways of use. The students will become competent to measure physical values with different kinds of sensing devices, to process the signals, and to design basic control loops with simple elements.
Total available number of classes: 180
Course Syllabus: Introduction to sensing and sensors. Position sensors: Potentiometers and inductive sensors. Angular displacement, velocity, and acceleration sensors. Force and tension sensors. Temperature sensors. Flow sensors, level sensors, pressure sensors. Actuators: DC motors, stepper motors, AC motors. Hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. Basic controllers and their analog and digital implementation.
