Course Goals (acquired competencies): Acquiring knowledge on high voltage transmission networks including voltage regulation, short circuits and analysis of certain aspects of transient and dynamic stability.

Course Syllabus: Introduction. Field of ​​study. Basic concepts. Transmission of electricity with long three-phase lines. Voltage and reactive power flow control: regulation transformers, reactive power injection and redistribution, U-Q characteristic of demand. Short circuits in power systems. Short circuits in general - types, causes and consequences. The waveform of the short circuit current, allowed simplifications. Symmetrical components, equivalent circuits, general relations. Matrix based analysis. Means and measures to limit short circuit currents. Stability of power systems – transient and dynamic. Electromechanical transients in general, concepts and definitions. Swing equation. Modeling. Angle power characteristics. Transient stability, method of small oscillations. Dynamic stability. Criterion of equal areas. Multimachine system. Measures to improve power system stability.
