Course Goals (acquired competencies): Knowledge of the possibilities for application of information-communication technologies (ICT) for achieving energy efficiency and sustainable development. Knowledge of basic aspects of energy efficiency and sustainable ICT development.

Course Syllabus: Introduction. The need and possibilities of using ICT for energy efficiency and sustainable development. Economic benefits. Carriers of innovations for energy-efficient and sustainable ICT (Green ICT). Business development opportunities. Trends for energy consumption in ICT. Overview of technologies and their development in terms of energy efficiency. Energy consumption in data centers. Effects of modern trends (collocation, virtualization, cloud services) on energy efficiency. Energy consumption in communication networks: access networks, home networks and user equipment. Energy consumption in communication networks: edge and core networks. Software influence on energy efficiency and sustainable development. Application of ICT in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity. Application of ICT in transport and logistics. Application of ICT for automation of industrial processes. Application of ICT in building management. Application of ICT to reduce carbon emission and global warming effect. Energy-efficient and sustainable ICT. Negative effects of ICT on energy efficiency and sustainable development.
