Course Goals (acquired competencies): Getting acquainted with the basic principles of work and the technologies on which multimedia systems are based; Acquiring basic knowledge about the requirements set in front of modern multimedia systems and problems related to their implementation; Empowering to perceive problems in the design of multimedia systems and gaining the ability to complement the acquired knowledge in the direction of overcoming the perceived problems.

Course Syllabus: Introductory notions of multimedia systems, historical development. Basic notions of computer graphics. Basic concepts of digital sound processing, sound compression. Basic concepts of digital speech processing: speech synthesis, speech analysis. Basic concepts of image and video processing: image analysis and segmentation, image and video encoding. Multimedia data streams (multimedia servers, synchronization), Quality of service (QoS for IP protocols), Media-on-Demand (video-on-demand broadcast, interactive television). Searching by content in digital libraries. Searching for multimedia data: sound, speech, music, graphics, picture and video. Principles of image and video databases (image and video search, quantification of results), MPEG-7. Advanced multimedia techniques: Algorithms for audio, speech, images, video, context and actions recognition.
