Course Goals (acquired competencies): Competence for solving basic engineering problems using elementary physical laws.

Course Syllabus: Introduction in physics. Kinematics: elements of motion, motion along a straight line, motion in two dimensions. Dynamics: Newtоn's laws, momentum, work and energy, conservation laws. Dynamics of rotational motion: moment of inertia, angular momentum, analogy between translatory and rotational motion. Theory of relativity: Newtonian relativity, the Lorenz transformations, relativistic energy. Oscillations, waves and acoustics: simple harmonic oscillatory motion, combination of harmonic oscillations, wave process, standing waves and interference, sound waves. Basics of fluid mechanics. Structure of matter and heat: molecular-kinetic theory, thermal expansion, the ideal gas law. Thermodynamics: basic thermodynamic laws, thermodynamic processes, heat engines.
