Course Goals (acquired competencies): The students will obtain basic knowledge of the principles of radio navigation and positioning, terestrial and satelite navigation sustems. Also they will obtain knowledge about the basic applications of the navigation systems.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to positioning methods. Determination of position in signlestation and multistation systems. Radionavigation. Hyperbolic systems Loran, Decca, Dectra, Omega. Avionics navigation and landing systems NDB, VAR, VOR/DME, TACAN, ILS, MLS. Terrestrial radio-localization systems: cellular positioning (GSM, UMTS), short-range systems for indoor positioning (WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, UWB, RF-ID). Satellite radio navigation. Global satellite navigation systems (GNSS) GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou. Safety demands and performance of navigation systems. Applications of GNSS systems.
