Course Goals (acquired competencies): This course is designed to provide basic knowledge in the regulation of the electricity sector. The students will be capable of understanding the energy policy of the EU, Republic of Macedonia and the region.

Course Syllabus: Historic development of the EU Energy Policy. Energy Union - "green energy development", security of supply in energy and single Pan-European Energy Market. Energy Community - Energy Community Treaty, obligation for implementation of EU legislation and expected benefits. Regional initiatives - regional electricity markets, infrastructural connection, regional planning of resources. Electricity markets: Directives, regulations and network codes from the Third package of EU legislation for electricity and gas markets. Legal framework in Republic of Macedonia. Energy law and major secondary legislation. Market participants. Market institutions. Energy strategy of the Republic of Macedonia and expected developments.
