Course Goals (acquired competencies): Obtaining professional knowledge for designing of technical documentation for construction of the small hydro components, specification and selection of the electrical part of the plant and connection to the grid.

Course Syllabus: Small Hydro Power plants (SHPP), classification, importance. Small hydro plants in run-of-river schemes. Small hydro plants in fast running mountain river-flows. Intakes and hydro-technical parts.  Powerhouses. Types of turbine wheels. Types of generators. Electrical equipment. Earthing and lightning protection. Control and monitoring. Rehabilitation of old power plants. Project design of the electrical part. Tender specifications for SHPP.
