Course Goals (acquired competencies): Learning and theoretical and practical analysis of: modern digital switching structures and systems in the telephone network, signaling and signaling protocols, synchronization, fast packet switching assemblies, packet switching, routing theory and routing protocols in the Internet.

Course Syllabus: Introduction to switching. Historical development of switching systems. Telephone network. Digital switching structures and systems. Signaling and signaling protocols. Synchronization. Introduction to Internet routing. Packet switching (Layer 2 / Layer 3). Routing theory. Routing protocols. Switching in Voice over IP (VoIP) networks. Future switching and routing techniques.
