Course Goals (acquired competencies): Introduction to the teletraffic engineering concepts and network planning and dimensioning principles in ICT systems. Study of all relevant mathematical formulae in the teletraffic theory. Analysis of real ICT systems, their dimensioning, maintenance and operation.

Course Syllabus: Introduction. Telecommunications traffic terminology. Models and characteristics of ICT systems. Birth and death process. Markov chains. Statistical characterization of traffic. Traffic descriptors. QoS mechanisms. Loss systems. Delay systems. Traffic aspects in dimensioning ICT systems. Queueing systems. Application of queueing theory. Internet traffic and corresponding modeling. Traffic measurements.
