Course Goals (acquired competencies): Study of wireless IP networks, mobile Internet, Mobile IP protocol for macro-mobility in wireless IP networks. QoS and VoIP over wireless IP networks. Micro-mobility and handovers, routing and signaling protocols in mobile IP networks. Interconnection of mobile and wireless networks at IP level. Security mechanisms, admission control, multimedia services and applications in wireless and mobile IP environment.

Course Syllabus: Integration of IP and legacy mobile networks. Evolution to wireless all-IP networks: from GPRS, UMTS to LTE and 5G. Mobile Internet. Mobile IP, macro-mobility. Management of micro-mobility. Quality of Service (QoS) for IP applications over wireless networks: integrated and differentiated services in wireless IP networks. Voice over IP (VoIP) over wireless IP networks. QoS aspects of VoIP over a wireless IP. TCP/IP communication over wireless links. IP mobility, handovers in mobile IP networks. Signaling and routing for mobile IP networks. Interconnection of mobile networks (UMTS, LTE) and wireless networks (WLAN, WiMAX). Security mechanisms in wireless IP networks, AAA mechanisms. Multimedia services and applications over wireless IP networks: video transmission, IPTV. IP multimedia systems for heterogeneous wireless IP networks. New services and applications through wireless IP networks (location dependent services, mobile cloud services, gaming, etc.).
