Biography:

Dr. Venceslav Kafedziski earned his undergraduate and MSc degrees from the Faculty of electrical engineering (now Faculty of electrical engineering and information technologies) in 1982 and in 1989 and his Doctoral degree from the Arizona State University, Tempe, USA in 2000. He is an honorary member of the Phi Kappa Phi for exceptional achievements during his doctoral studies in USA (GPA 4.0/4.0). From 1983 to 1990 Dr. Kafedziski was employed at the Faculty of electrical engineering in Skopje as a teaching assistant, and from 1990 to 2000 he was affiliated with Arizona State University in Tempe. In 2001 he rejoined the Faculty of electrical engineering in Skopje as an assistant professor, and was promoted to an associate professor position in 2005 and to a full professor position in 2010. Since 2001 he has been teaching a number of subjects in the areas of digital and wireless communications, signal processing and information theory. Dr. Kafedziski is the coordinator of the M.Sc. program in Wireless and mobile communications and the new MSc program in Wireless systems, services and applications. He is the Head of the Laboratory for signal processing in communications.

Dr. Kafedziski is the author of more than 80 scientific publications published in prestigious international journals and conference proceedings in the areas of wireless communications, information theory and signal processing. He has been a reviewer for the prestigious journals IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Communications Letters.

Dr. Kafedziski participated in several scientific, application and Tempus projects. He was the recipient of EU Tempus individual mobility grants in 2003 and 2004, at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy and Institute Eurecom, France, respectively. Within the activities of TEMPUS project “Master studies in DSP based on Blended Learning Approach” he spent two weeks at the University of Maribor in the summer of 2008. From April 1st to August 31st 2012 he was a visiting researcher at the Institute Jozef Stefan in Ljubljana, Slovenia. From June 1st to August 31st 2013 he was a visiting researcher at the Institute for Theoretical Information Technology at RWTH Aachen University, Germany and from May 1st to July 31st 2016 he was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Telecommunication Systems at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department of the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.

In 2006 Dr. Kafedziski acted as the Head of the Working Group of the Agency of Electronic Communications of the Republic of Macedonia, which prepared the documents for introducing WiMAX in Republic of Macedonia. In 2007 and 2008 he participated in the working groups that prepared the National strategy for the development of electronic communications, and the National strategy for broadband internet. Dr. Kafedziski was an invited lecturer at four ITU Workshops with international participation from the national regulatory bodies, academia and industry, lecturing on WiMAX, LTE, broadband impact on media, and spectrum measurement techniques. He has served as a Member of the Board of the Macedonian Society for ETAI from 2004 to 2008. Since 2008 he has been the chair of the Technical committee for electronic communications at the Institute for standardization of Republic of Macedonia. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and the organizer of the IEEE Republic of Macedonia Section Information Theory Society Chapter. Currently he is serving as the Chair of this Chapter.
