ITU Centre of Excellence elearning course: “Next Generation Broadband Internet Access”, 26 May – 22 June 2015
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Centre of Excellence (CoE) node at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, will conduct eLearning course on
“Next Generation Broadband Internet Access”
from 26 May to 22 June 2015,
within the framework of ITU Centre of Excellence Network for Europe, and it will be delivered through the ITU Academy: http://academy.itu.int/moodle/.
Head/Coordinator of ITU Centre of Excellence at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies in Skopje is Prof. Dr. Toni Janevski (tonij@feit.ukim.edu.mk).
This course will focus on Next Generation Broadband Internet Access from technology, regulation and business aspects. It will cover the Internet architectures, Internet protocols (IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP) and fundamental Internet technologies (routing, DNS, DHCP), Internet services (WWW, e-mail, BitTorrent, Skype, social networking, etc.), as well as network neutrality aspect of the Internet regulation. Further, the course will include broadband Internet technologies, including ITU's work on broadband, DSL access networks, cable access networks, passive optical networks (GPON, BPON, EPON), unified local broadband access through Ethernet and WiFi, mobile broadband Internet access (HSPA, LTE, Mobile WiMAX), as well as impact of broadband on business and development on a global scale. Also, it will cover next generation broadband Internet access, including Next Generation PON (NG-PON and NG-PON 2), Active Optical Networks (AON) and WDM, Metro Ethernet for fixed broadband access, as well as next generation mobile broadband access (LTE-Advanced, 5G developments), together with ITU regulation guidelines in converged broadband world. Finally, the course will incorporate NGN and broadband Internet services, including NGN VoIP and IPTV, OTT Internet broadband services, Internet/Web of Things, business services over broadband (VPN) as well as regulatory and business aspects for next generation broadband.
This course is targeted at managers, engineers and employees from regulators, government organisations, telecommunication companies and academia, who are interested in understanding, implementation and regulation of Next Generation Broadband Internet, including technologies, standardization, regulation and content. Other institutions and individuals that are dedicated in building their capacity related to Next Generation Broadband Internet are also welcome to participate.
