Power Plants and Systems

Educational activity

The members of the Institute teach courses (12 compulsory and 9 elective) in the study programme of Power Engineering and Management, as well as a number of courses in other study programmes in the field of power plants, relay protection, solar energy, management, etc. They also teach most of the courses of the master degree programmes of Power Engineering, Project Management, Renewable Energy Sources, Smart Grids and Solar Technology, and also teach courses of some other second cycle programmes at the Faculty. All members of the Institute have also prepared courses for the third cycle doctoral studies that will start in autumn of 2010.

Scientific and research activity

The members of the Institute have realised many international and domestic scientific and research projects in the following areas:
  • Development of Digital Simulator of Power Plant with Fuzzy Logic Control of Main Functions,
  • Modelling of the Macedonian Power Plants and Power System Operation for a New Technological and Market Environment,
  • Determination of the Technical Aspects of Investment Project Risk in Small Hydro Power Plants,
  • Economical-Environmental Aspects of Partial Substitution of Lignite with Liquid Fuel in Thermal Power Plants,
  • Establishment of a Country Specific Data Base for Macedonia, Containing Technical, Economic and Environmental Data for Electricity Supply Options and Strategies,
  • Thermal Power Plants and the Environment,
  • Advanced Methods for Analysis and Management of Technological Risks
  • Energy Sector Development Strategies,
  • New Approach in Electrification of Rural Areas-Photovoltaic Systems,
  • Rehabilitation of 6 Large Hydro Power Plants in Macedonia,
  • Design Concept of the Treska Cascade Control Centre,
  • Design Concept of the Hydro Power Plant Sv. Petka,
  • Rehabilitation, Operation and Transfer (ROT) of 6 Small Hydro Power Plants.
