ITU Centre of Excellence elearning course: “Future Internet”, 29 May – 25 June 2012

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Centre of Excellence (CoE) node at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, will conduct eLearning course on “Future Internet” from 29 May to 25 June 2012, within the framework of ITU Centre of Excellence Network for Europe, and it will be delivered through the ITU Academy: http://academy.itu.int.

Head/Coordinator of ITU Centre of Excellence at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies in Skopje is Prof. Dr. Toni Janevski (tonij@feit.ukim.edu.mk).

This course will focus on the Future Internet including technologies, regulation and business aspects. It will cover the Internet fundamentals of today, including architectures, protocols (IP, DNS, TCP, etc.), Internet services (WWW, e-mail, BitTorrent, Skype, and more), as well as Internet governance. For the Future Internet the broadband access is a prerequisite. Hence, the course will include broadband Internet access technologies, such as DSL and cable networks, FTTH and next generation passive and active optical networks, Metro Ethernet, future mobile and wireless Internet access (LTE-Advanced and post LTE, gigabit home networks), fixed-mobile convergence (infrastructure sharing, femto-cells), as well as ITU’s work on broadband. Further, the course will cover the work on future Internet and Next Generation Networks (NGN) by ITU, including IMS, NGN Service Overlay Networks, self-management, IPv6, security and privacy approaches, as well as business models. Also, it will cover future Internet services, including VoIP, future IPTV, future web, peer-to-peer, Internet of things, in-network clouds, as well as business and regulation aspects of converged services and contents in future Internet.

This course is targeted at managers, engineers and employees from regulators, government organisations, telecommunication companies and academia, who are interested in understanding, implementation and regulation of Future Internet, including technologies, standardization, regulation and content. Other institutions and individuals that are dedicated in building their capacity related to Future Internet are also welcome to participate.
