International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Centre of Excellence (CoE) node at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, will conduct eLearning course on “Next Generation Mobile and Wireless Networks” from 22 November to 19 December 2011, within the framework of ITU Centre of Excellence Network for Europe, and it will be delivered through the ITU Academy: http://academy.itu.int.

Head/Coordinator of ITU Centre of Excellence at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies in Skopje is Prof. Dr. Toni Janevski (tonij@feit.ukim.edu.mk).

This course will focus on the Next Generation Mobile and Wireless Networks according to the ITU IMT-Advanced, which defines the 4G mobile networks. It will cover the ITU requirements for 4G, NGN aspects for mobile networks, Internet control and signalling protocols for 4G (SIP, Diameter, Mobile IP), as well as new mobile and wireless technologies (LTE, LTE-Advanced, 802.11n, 802.16m). So far, two technologies are accepted within the IMT-Advanced umbrella: LTE-Advanced and Mobile WiMAX 2.0 (802.16m). Hence, this course will cover LTE mobile networks, including spectrum management, System Architecture Evolution (SAE), Common IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem), services over LTE networks, LTE network deployment as well as regulation and business aspects for LTE. Furthermore, the course will include LTE-Advanced (4G) as an extension of the LTE, including the advanced features (carrier aggregation, relay nodes), system architecture, services support (VoIP, multicast and broadcast services, location-based services), and its business potential. Also, the course will cover Mobile WiMAX 2.0 (4G), including technologies in the access and core networks, spectrum management, QoS support, femtocells and self-organizing networks, VoIP and IPTV over mobile WiMAX 2.0, as well as regulation and business aspects.

This course is targeted to managers, engineers and employees from regulators, government organisations, telecommunication companies and academia, who are interested in understanding, implementation and regulation of Next Generation Mobile and Wireless Networks, including network design, technologies, standardization, regulation and content. Other institutions and individuals that are dedicated in building their capacity related to Next Generation Mobile and Wireless Networks are also welcome to participate.

For formal Letter of Invitation for the ITU CoE elearning course all interested parties should contact Prof. Dr. Toni Janevski (tonij@feit.ukim.edu.mk), latest by 21 November 2011.
